Many people who see a kettlebell in their local gym instantly get sweaty palms and avoid the area at all costs. Swinging a kettlebell seems like a workout that only extremely fit people can attempt, when it fact, swinging one of these bells is something that everyone should do on a weekly basis. Kettlebell workouts are a great way to get your heart racing, blood pumping and sweat producing. If you’re looking to get into the best shape of your life, you need to stop avoiding that 1.5 pood kettlebell that is in the corner staring at you.

Half the battle to picking up a kettlebell is knowing how to use it. If you have never been confident on how to properly swing a kettlebell, this is probably the reason you avoided it all this time. So how does one properly use this piece of equipment?

1-Start with your legs hip width apart. Right outside your shoulders is a good place to start.

2-With the kettlebell gripped firmly in both hands, squat by pushing your buttocks back first, bending knees second and keeping your chest in an upwards position. It is a must that your back stays flat during this movement.

3- Squat down and in one movement swing the kettlebell using the force of your hips. The entire movement of the kettlebell coming up to eye level is produced by the hips.

4- Stop your swing at eye level and do the movement in reverse.
