Competition Kettlebells: What Are They Used For?

Competition Kettlebells: What Are They Used For?

Kettlebell Sport or Steel Competition Kettlebells are designed for high rep workouts with specific lifts, they include:
  • Snatch
  • Jerk
  • Long Cycle (clean and jerks)

The different lifts can be perfomed with one or with two kettlebells, called Biatholon, and lifters complete as many reps as possible in 10 minutes using different weights and in different weight classes. There are very specific rules for form, weight class and requirements. We will publish future posts with all the rules for Kettlebell Sport. There are a number of organizations who put on competitions like Orange Kettlebell Club and American Kettlebell Alliance

Competitions use specific weights in kilograms and there is an international standard of colors for the different weights. Also, no matter what the weight, all should be the same dimensions so that when competing and practicing you always are able to use the same form and the bell fits you the same way.

If you have been lifting for a while or like competitive fitness then Kettlebell Sport might be for you! It involves incredible amounts of practice, technique and strength but can be very rewarding. Fillers:

Traditionally, competition kettlebells were made with a steel shell which weighs the same regardless of the kettlebell. Then they are filled with fillers like sawdust and ball bearings in different proportions to achieve the desired weight while maintaining the same size. Our competition kettlebells are poured from solid steel and contain no fillers. The weights 8-34 kg do not contain fillers and are only solid steel. This creates better long term balance and durability as fillers can shift around and move over time leading to imbalances. Imagine the kettlebell upside down in a mold and then steel poured into the mold to achieve the desire weight. If you look inside the aperture on the bottom of our competition kettlebells you will see the density of the steel poured on the inside.
